SPC flooring, or Stone Polymer Composite, has fast become one of the most popular flooring choices for busy homes, and for good reason. It’s strong, waterproof, resistant to wear, and incredibly easy to install. But like any flooring, it still needs the right care to keep it looking its best over time. We’ve worked with countless homeowners who’ve chosen SPC flooring for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and even utility rooms, and our experience shows that with the right routine, you can maintain that “just-installed” look for years.
We know first-hand that one of the biggest appeals of SPC is how low-maintenance it is. That said, regular upkeep and a few simple habits can go a long way in protecting your investment and extending the lifespan of your floor, especially in high-traffic areas.
Clean Little and Often
It’s easy to overlook small daily messes, especially in busy homes. But the best way to keep SPC flooring looking new is to keep on top of the dust, crumbs and debris. We always recommend a light daily sweep or vacuum using a soft-bristle attachment to prevent grit from scratching the surface. Even though SPC is highly scratch-resistant, regular removal of loose particles will help maintain its smooth finish.
A dry microfibre mop is another great tool for daily use, it picks up fine dust without the need for water or chemicals, which is ideal if you’re looking to simplify your cleaning routine.
Use the Right Products for Mopping
SPC floors don’t need heavy-duty cleaning solutions. In fact, some harsh chemicals can dull the surface over time. When it’s time for a deeper clean, a damp mop with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner is all you need. Avoid using bleach, wax-based products, or anything abrasive.
Our panels and flooring are designed with ease in mind, and SPC is no exception. Unlike some natural materials, there’s no need for sealing or specialist treatments. We recommend mopping once a week, or more often in busier areas such as kitchens or hallways. Always wring out the mop well, excess water isn’t necessary and could seep into the joins if left to pool, even with waterproof flooring.

Add Protection to High-Wear Zones
In our experience, one of the most effective ways to prolong the life of your flooring is to use mats and protective pads where they count. Entrance mats at doorways help catch dirt before it’s tracked through the house. In kitchens, placing a mat near the sink or cooker helps reduce wear from standing or cooking in the same spot day after day.
Under furniture, especially heavy items or anything that gets moved frequently, use felt pads on the legs. SPC is highly impact-resistant, but over time, dragging chairs or tables across the surface can cause light scuffs. Small adjustments like these really do make a difference in high-use households.
Be Mindful of Moisture and Spills
One of the biggest advantages of SPC flooring is its waterproof core. That means it can handle spills, splashes and even mopping with no problem. But to keep your floor looking pristine, it’s still good practice to clean up spills quickly. Liquids like wine, juice or oil, can leave marks or dull the finish if left to sit for too long.
This is especially true in kitchens or utility areas where leaks or splashes are more likely. A simple wipe with a cloth or paper towel is all it takes to deal with most messes before they become an issue.
Avoid Dragging Heavy Items
We’ve all been tempted to slide the washing machine or fridge across the floor when cleaning or moving things around. But despite SPC’s excellent durability, we strongly advise against dragging anything heavy across it. Doing so can leave gouges or pressure marks that aren’t always fixable.
If you’re moving furniture or appliances, lift where possible, or use floor sliders designed to protect hard surfaces. This is particularly important during kitchen renovations, where new SPC floors might be exposed to heavier-than-usual stress while appliances are moved in and out.
Restore the Finish with the Right Care
Even with excellent care, SPC floors might eventually lose a bit of their surface sheen, especially in very high-traffic homes. If that happens, it doesn’t mean your flooring needs replacing. In our experience, most dullness is surface-level and can be improved with a proper clean using a manufacturer-approved vinyl or SPC floor restorer.
These products are designed to refresh the surface without leaving a residue, and are ideal if your floor is a few years old and just needs a bit of a lift. Always spot test first, and avoid anything that contains wax or polish.
